Growing up in The Dolomites – a small part of the Alps in northern Italy, Markus was surrounded by the purest produce available in the world. This experience led to his appreciation for natural and fresh ingredients to create incredible flavours and sensory experiences. Starting from humble beginnings in his uncle’s artisan restaurant, Markus completed his hospitality studies and quickly moved into the European hotels and tourism industry which proved to be a chef’s melting pot of different techniques, cuisines and opportunities. From working in a two Michelin star restaurant in Northern Italy to experiencing food and wine in 31 countries, Markus finally called Australia home, opening Contact Bar and Kitchen in 2017 to reflect his values and appreciation of food.
